June 27
Annual General Meeting.. Following the AGM (which should not take many minutes) we have a couple of items to complete the evening.
1. See how you can turn your laptop or desktop into a digital TV and hard disk recorder for $80, using a small USB tuner and associated software. The tuner displays analogue and digital TV, teletext, forthcoming programs and can schedule program recording. Recording is in MPEG2 format, so the files may be inserted straight onto the timeline of Vegas or imported into Architect.
2. We have a list of over 30 tricks and methods of helping you to edit video, like adding Gaussian blur, deinterlacing stills, colour correction, using broadcast black, the quickest way of making DVDs, the best format for stills and much more. We will pick out some of the more useful or unusual items and demonstrate how they operate.

June 7
We will discuss the future continuance of VMWA and, if required, will call an Extraordinary General Meeting for 28 June to arrange for the closing of VMWA and the handing over of the club's assets to another similar group, in accordance with our Constitution. See the 'Download' section of this site for a copy of the VMWA Constitution.

May 3
Anthony will demonstrate some of the new features in Vegas 7. Alf has news of a 'box' with inputs for composite, Firewire and USB that makes DVDs, complete with a menu.

April 6
The next meeting is the day before Easter, so we have not organised a formal speaker but will have a workshop session plus projection of movies. Bring your laptop if you have your editing software loaded, and there will be a series of practical assignments to undertake. We also have a look at Photoshop Elements 5, a very friendly program for organising and modifying digital photographs. We will project some more of a DVD made by a video club in Newcastle NSW, so we can view some of their work, plus we have other short videos. If you have any of your videos to project, bring them to the meeting on DVD or flash drive.

VIDEO SHOOT 7pm Tues 17 April
We have been asked to video a close harmony singing group doing some of their routines, as they practice for a convention to be held in Sydney. There are over 30 singers in the group so we will need at least four cameras. It is in Scarborough.

March 1
Annie Payne from 'History from the Heart' will present her methods of collecting life stories, such as prior to making a video history. Annie's site is at annie@historyfromtheheart.com.au

We have a DVD from a Newcastle video club illustrating some of their projects. Also Alf will project his video of the Ernie Turpin shoot and we will discuss the results. There will be time to project your videos - being them to the meeting on DVD or flash drive.

February 1 2007
Suzanne Richards will demonstrate using Photoshop for producing quality artwork. Suzanne's work may be seen at on her web site www.mojo.com.au. She has an Associate in Graphic Design and was a founding student of the Centre for Advanced Digital Animation in Fremantle. Suzanne will be using Photoshop CS, controlled via a graphics tablet.
John McKenna will demonstrate the free program 'Anaglyph Maker' which takes two photos and converts to a 3D image. John will also show the special camera mount he made to obtain the two photos. Tony Luha has also been busy making a camera mount that pivots about the focal plane of the camera, then uses special software to make panoramic photos. These are not just photos stiched together - the photos form a two-dimensional panorama that can contain hot spots for storing extra information.

January 4 2007
We will be have a live shoot. We have engaged the services of a local artist who will demonstrate his quick sketches. Bring along your video camera, tripod, microphone and fully-charged battery. We will supply lights. We also will have a demo of a $200 hardware/software device for calibrating the colours of a computer monitor (CRT or LED).

December 21 Meeting
This will be our Christmas event. We will supply the drinks and nibbles. We also have some videos to show you, but bring along some of your work on DVD or flash drive for projection.

December 7 Meeting
We have another exciting collection of goodies. First Lindsay Fleay will show us what he has been working on at Fox Studios in Sydney for the last 12 years. Lindsay is a graphic artist and animator. Paul Dennis will demo the open source browser that really works well, Firefox, and he plans to bring along his hard disk HD recorder. Ron Pereira to talk about his analogue video to DVD converter.
Then it is the turn of you members. If you have purchased a video camera in the last 12 months, bring it along and let us know the plusses and minuses. If you bring along something you have captured with your camera, make sure you bring the camera to composite (or SVHS) cables, or put the clip on a DVD. Finally, Tricia has bought a dolly (the sort that carries a camera) and she will bring that along to show us. But there's more - if you have any videos to project, bring them along on a DVD or via your camera (but bring the camera cables).

November 16 Meeting
This is a 'workshop' meeting, when we bring along our laptops and our problems for solving, or inventions to view, or videos to watch. To start the meeting, Anthony Stallo will demo some of the new features of Sony Vegas 7, and will list some of the other new features he has not yet tried.
This will be the last workshop meeting held on a regular basis. The committee have decided the equivalent meeting on 21 December will be the Christmas party, and in 2007 we will not book the room for every third Thursday, but just hold workshops as the demand arises.

November 2 Meeting
We have another selection of interesting topics for the next meeting. Anthony Stallo will demonstrate his DVD replicator, which makes multiple DVD copies at a time. Paul Dennis will demonstrate his High Definition DVD recorder. Eric Trown will show us his new cine to video device - made in Australia, costs less than $180 and claimed to produce high quality conversions. If there is one question VMWA receives on a regular basis, it is "How do I convert my old cine films to video?" and this could be the answer. As usual, if you have any videos you would like projected (on our new data projector) bring them along.

October 19 Workshop Meeting
For the rest of 2006 the workshop meetings will be operational on the third Thursday of each month. Come along to Bullcreek at 7.30pm on 19 Oct, bring your laptop with video editing software loaded, and we will get down to some serious work.

October 5
1. MUSIC, MUSIC, MUSIC - do you have a favourite supplier or website where you obtain music for your productions? Then share that source with the group next week. Bring along a sample or just the website or supplier's address.
2. Trevor will demonstrate his video streaming process
3. Paul will show the latest modifications (now around V5) of his self-constructed Steadycam device. He'll show footage taken both with and without the steadycam.
4. Discussion on the website and its contents - what do you want to see on the site ... have you ever used or even looked at the site?
5. Where do we go with the Vegas workshop group?

August 3 Annual General Meeting
After the AGM, David Lockett of www.westcoast.com.au and www.holiday-wa.net will present a talk on hosting streaming video. David also has a lot of information on graphics, animation and WiFi internet systems.

July 20 Workshop Meeting
Anthony Stallo will demonstrate video merging, from camera to the Vegas timeline. Roger Watson will demonstrate morphing using WinMorph, plus present examples of copyright-free music suitable for video backgrounds.

July 6
Ron Pereira will demonstrate how to make your own copyright-free music, using a keyboard and Soundforge software. Then Trica van Nus will demonstrate Hypercam, a low-cost screen capture program that captures your work on the computer as movie files. If you have any videos to be projected, bring them to the meeting. If you have any videomaking problems, bring them along and we will try to solve them.

June 15 Workshop Meeting
Ex-TAFE information technology person, Garry Davies, will put together a computer and explain the function of each part and then fire up the computer.

June 1
Martin Bytheway of SAE College Perth will talk on the methods of producing 16 x 9 format and the relative merits of the format. Then Tricia van Nus will present her recent 'Ready, Willing and Able' video project. Alan Beckingham will project the unusual sports video he directed on archery, then Paul Dennis will project a very amusing three-part video on eggs, which literally goes off with a bang.
